In addition, reports from the Standing Committees were approved as part of the consent agenda. A summary of the meeting can be viewed at this link. The next Governing Board meeting will be held at the Lake Pointe Lodge on Lake Eufaula on September 22 and 23rd. Organization Background: In August 2008, seven users of the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint rivers met to discuss the possibilities of a grassroots organization that would provide a different path to solving the 20 year old water conflict. The premise that brought the group together was that the political and legal systems had failed to find a solution. Maybe it was time for the stakeholders to have a voice in the process. In August 2009, twenty users of these rivers, representing over 60 stakeholders that had organized into a Steering Committee met to finalize a Charter and Bylaws for the organization and to initiate the organizational effort to create the ACF Stakeholders, Inc. During the past 12 months, with the facilitation services of the U. S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution of the Morris K Udall Foundation, meetings have been held in the various sub-basins of the ACF with significant participation of users from the Gulf of Mexico to Gainesville, GA. This grassroots effort has resulted in the realization that any solution to the tri-state water conflict must be consensus based. Solutions must be developed that benefit every user. Any solution short of that is not sustainable. For a review of the history of events and current status, click here.
